Fifth, Fun, Fabulous Princess Auto Foundation & Tallman Foundation Golf Tournament

The Tallman Foundation and Princess Auto Foundation hosted its FIFTH Annual Golf Tournament in support of the Princess Auto Foundation (PAF) and The Tallman Foundation (TTF) on August 10, 2011 at Kingswood Golf and Country Club. The PAF provides bursaries to technical colleges throughout Canada and TTF provides full scholarships and financial assistance to education and healthy living programs.

Currently, the Princess Auto Foundation supports Endowment Bursary programs at eight technical colleges in Canada. These colleges are located in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Newfoundland.

The Tallman Foundation has provided thirty full scholarships in the past five years to students from Sisler, St. John’s, Miles Macdonell, Tec Voc, Garden City, Maples, West Kildonan, and Children of the Earth High Schools. We have supported programs through Boys and Girls Club North Winnipeg, Career Trek, Graffiti Art Programming, and CSI.

Each year the Tallman Foundation partners with the Princess Auto Foundation for an annual Golf Tournament in the month of August. The tournament is “SOLD OUT” each year due to the high energy our sponsors and golf committee bring, and this year sold out in record time! All proceeds from the tournament are divided between the Tallman Foundation and the Princess Auto Foundation, supporting the trades through partnerships with Canadian Technical Colleges.

To highlight our fifth year of the tournament, The PAF / TTF Golf Tournament featured a “Fun and Fabulous” theme, where food and activities were organized for those participating, and prizes given to teams with the best costumes on the course. We witnessed everything from Rockers to Hockey Players to Kilts! Many of the Tallman Foundation students were in attendance as volunteers, and were happy to share their stories and take part in the fun as well.

Following gameplay, all players reported to the clubhouse for an excellent meal provided by Kingswood, and our live and silent auctions featuring prizes from our sponsor, venders, and friends – including ticket packages, golf gear, tools and accessories, and more!

The Tallman Foundation and Princess Auto Foundation would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s tournament, and express our gratitude to all sponsors, donators, and volunteers for their generosity and efforts to make our Fifth, Fun, Fabulous Golf Tournament such a success!

Tallman Foundation Student Scholarship Evening

One of our most important nights of the year -- The Tallman Foundation Student Scholarship Evening is our opportunity to make a real difference in Winnipeg students' lives.

On Thursday, June 23rd, 2011, we presented 17 NEW STUDENTS from St. John's, Tec Voc, Sisler, Garden City, West Kildonan, Maples, Children of the Earth and Miles MacDonell high schools with a full scholarship to post-secondary education in an upbeat and inspiring ceremony.

The Tallman Foundation would like to thank all those who attended, and specifically those who volunteer and support our foundation for making our Scholarship Evening possible. We look forward to a bright future with these students as a part of our Tallman Foundation family!

Scholarship Criteria

The Tallman Foundation Scholarship is awarded to a student of outstanding character who enriches others with their presence. This individual has maintained "good grades" throughout their high school years, while respectfully giving their time to the community or their school by volunteering in extra-curricular activities.

This student would not have had the opportunity to attend a post-secondary institute due to the socio-economic status of his/her family without the scholarship provided by The Tallman Foundation. Specifically, the principal and selection team chooses a student based on their financial need.

The Tallman Foundation "Full" Scholarship includes books, tuition, and bus fare, and is contingent upon the performance at the end of each post-secondary term. It is our hope that this person will make a difference in believing to "Stand Tall" and making the world a better place.

Rady JCC "Y" Sports Dinner

Held annually, the "Y" Sports Dinner, presented by Rady JCC, has widely been viewed as Winnipeg's premier sports event for nearly 40 years. The event is also a major fundraiser for Rady JCC (Rose and Max Rady Jewish Community Centre), which raises funds for the not-for-profit community agency to provide a range of programs and services for the community. Specifically, the "Y" Sports Dinner provides the Rady JCC with the financial support to fund scholarships and provide over $200,000 each year in subsidies to families experiencing economically hard times and programming for children, youth, and adults.

On Tuesday, June 21, this year's "Y" Sports Dinner featured four-time Superbowl winner and NFL legend Joe Montana, who was the evening's keynote speaker.

The event honoured The Tallman Foundation as their choice for "Philanthropist of the Year", an honour bestowed upon the founders of the foundation.

Annual Tallman Foundation Walk: 10,000 Steps: A Walk In The Park

In 2010, the Tallman Foundation along with a “community minded” committee, created a North End Walk titled “10,000 Steps to Change”, a 10km walk through Winnipeg’s North End. We invited St. John’s and Sisler High Schools along with Luxton, Victoria-Albert and David Livingstone elementary schools to come out and walk with their parents, teachers and administration.  With 280 registered walkers, we were to begin our walk in front of Rainbow Stage, Kildonan Park, but due to inclement weather, plans moved to inside St. John’s High School.  We exercised with a warm-up led by Shelly Arnold and then an intense aerobic session with the ever popular HOT 103, Ace Burpee.

For 2011's walk, HOT 103's Ace Burpee was our Master of Ceremonies and Energy Walker, and conducted a morning warm-up with Shelly Arnold once again. With great weather, we were able to walk through Kildonan Park and make our way through a "Skip Zone", "Dance Zone" and a "Meet and Greet" area. After the walk concluded, Freightliner Manitoba provided a barbeque for everyone in attendance.

Before the day's finish, names were drawn for our prize packages and announced by Ace. A Grand Prize of two tickets to a rock concert was given out at the very end. Prizes for the day were sponsored by Rogers, Procurity, Rainbow Stage, and more!

This year we aim to organize students from all areas of Winnipeg.

$100.00 = 1 Walker

SANTA COMES TO LUXTON SCHOOL

Freightliner Manitoba sponsored  a "Pancake & Sausage Breakfast" for all students and staff of Luxton School on Tuesday, December 21, 2010.   Oh,  what joy to arrange with the good help of our volunteer elves....Doug Stephen & Ken Livingstone, WOW Hospitality and Kerri Irvine-Ross, Minister of Housing and Ken Talbot, President, Freightliner Manitoba Ltd....all cooking up Pancakes at 6 a.m.

The school was beautifully decorated by staff and students.    At  9 a.m. over 260 students and staff entered the gym to the sound of the beautiful choir from St. John's High....Our servers were ready :-)

We had the good fortune of MLA Gord MacIntosh, Judy Wasylycia-Leiss and Susanne Hrynyk, School Trustee, join and serve everyone.  Santa arrived tight after breakfast and his elves, Holly and Jolly visited each classroom with a bag full of goodies for every student! Holly and Jolly, the elves happily handed out candy canes to all.

Big thanks to Kenny Talbot, President of Frieghtliner Manitoba Ltd, for being such jolly emcee.  He made the BEST of calling and handing out many door prizes.  The Grand Prize was a flat screen television that was won by a young student.   She was thrilled!!!

Our breakfast ended with a warm thanks and kind words from two Grade Six Students.  What a wonderful morning students, staff, volunteers and parents had thanks to the generousity of Freightliner and all the volunteers for making it all happen.

Thanksgiving comes to David Livingstone Elementary School

In November, 2010  The Tallman Foundation hosted a turkey dinner with all the trimmings to over 500 students and family members.  The evening was "magic".  This was with big thanks and the generosity to the following:

We had over 50 volunteers including the helping hands of David Livingstone Staff.  With the large number of  RSVP's we received, we had to split the dinner into two seatings.  The first seating was at 4:30 p.m. and the second was at 5:45 p.m.  We began each dinner with a blessing from an elder in the David Livingstone community.

Thanks to the Talbot Family for donating a mountain bike that was won by one lucky family member who picked up the grand prize after the second seating.
